Planning, the Key to Entrepreneurship

We have already seen the 6 professions you will need to start a business, but do you ever feel like you're solving problems as you find them and it feels like you're not making progress? Do you think entrepreneurship is too much for you and that you won’t be able to do it? First, take a deep breath, because this is completely normal and not just for entrepreneurs or digital marketing strategists. Secondly, and one of the keys to how to be an entrepreneur, is planning. It's nothing new, of course, but that doesn’t mean it's easy to carry out. In this article, I will give you some tips for achieving good planning and not getting lost among the tasks that arise.

Find Your Place

The first thing is the place where you will carry out the task. Just as we wouldn't think of making a Spanish omelette anywhere (let’s say in a bathroom, for example), you shouldn’t organize yourself (whether for entrepreneurship or defining your digital marketing strategies) anywhere either. You should find a suitable place that, if possible, has the following elements:

1. Internet connection. You shouldn’t have a problem with this. Nowadays, many cafés offer WiFi, or perhaps you have a mobile plan with enough data to tether from your phone, or, of course, you can use your home internet.
2. A desk, preferably large but not too large, as we tend to fill it with things. This can become more of a problem than a solution if we don’t maintain order or classification.
3. A comfortable chair. Whether it's an office chair or a lounge chair, as long as you're comfortable and it's the right height for the desk (your arms should rest well on the desk, neither too high nor too low), it's fine.
4. A window with a view. It would be fantastic if you could enjoy natural light, or even better, solar light. Sometimes you’ll also need to get some fresh air, so if you don't have this option, consider taking a short walk before or during your scheduled project time.
5. Music. Find a style or use one of the pre-made playlists on your streaming music platform that are inspiring for you. According to a study by Teresa Lesiuk at the University of Windsor, Canada, listening to music while working has a positive influence on performance. However, this depends on certain circumstances.
6. Always have something to drink nearby. Preferably water, as it will help you stay hydrated throughout the day. If you take a break, coffee, tea, or a caffeinated drink can also be helpful.

Find Your Moment

If you already have the place where you can start your business or define your marketing strategies, take a look at your calendar and find that slot of time for you and your project. You don't have to start with 5 hours a day, start with something manageable for you and then gradually increase it if possible or necessary. It doesn’t have to be all those hours in one go, although it's recommended because changing tasks always takes time. It will always be more optimal if you manage to group the hours within the same time frame.

If you have small gaps, try to make them at least 1 hour long, because sometimes the time spent remembering where you left off, diving into the task, and documenting and noting the next tasks may end up being longer than the time actually spent progressing.

We tend to wait for inspiration to come to work, however, we have to make an effort (but not force it) and create a routine. Be patient, once you establish the habit, it will be easier to find your muse and keep progressing.

Now, Plan and Organize

Lastly, Evaluate the Results

Don’t forget this. Each task completed will have an impact, possibly positive or possibly negative. Don’t be afraid of the latter, because they will be very valuable for growth. Get statistics, as valuable as those in your digital marketing strategies. Afterward, analyze them and draw the conclusions that will help you define the next tasks. Once again, you’ll need to be patient, as the results may not be visible in the short term.
